Wheels
You want to get as light a wheel as possible; the car was designed with light wheels as this improves; acceleration, ride, handling and steering feel. So bear this in mind when choosing these alloys. I also think most aftermarket rims tend to be too wide for the tyres we fit; this makes the rims heavier and means the tyre is not optimally fitted to the rim. This will be denied by all the high street retails as they know no better but if you specifically ask the technical sales people at the tyre manufacturers they will advise optimum rim widths .. which are narrower.. also see most original equipment rims .. they are narrower than the high street variety. I can ‘weigh’ a rim visually now having looked at rims for a while now; a heavy rim is rounded at the tyre/rim area .. see BBS; they are always square here to get the weight down.
Stock = 9.5lbs ea 5.6 Kg? (’93 alloys with Dunlop D60A2=30lbs)
99’ wheels = 195/50-15 are 30lbs
Mk1 = PCD: 100 mm (3.94 inches) Standard Offset: 45mm (1.77 inches) 14x5 1/2JJ
Mk2 = PCD: 100 mm (3.94 inches) Standard Offset: 40mm for 15x6
Hubcentric Collar (Centre bore) 54mm (diameter)
Offset – "Miatas seem to be happiest (minimum bump/torque steer) with an offset of 42-43mm regardless of width, and wheels up to 7" wide do fit with that offset". – Ray.
35 to 45mm will work with 16"x7" rims.
http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/techinfo/alloy.asp has graphics showing what wheel dimensions mean (like offset)"My wheels actually have 30 mm offset. They are slightly heavier than stock 15 inch wheels. I do agree that weight is a very important factor. Just like the wheels reacts more to irregularities of the road, it also "tells" you more about the level of grip available at the front wheels. Yes, the car is more twitchy as a side effect, but I tend to drive when I drive and not eat/drink/phone/whatever. I don't find the extra corrections required objectionable, but I do like the extra feedback when driving close to the limit. In summer, I do have a nearly daily comparison as our other Miata runs on stock M2 wheels (40 mm offset) with a similar alignment, and I do prefer the extra info I get from the "wrong" offset." Werner
Werner has; 7x15 rims (30mm offset) with 195/50 15 tyres and 6x15 rims (40 or 43 mm 195/50 tyres)

See
http://www.lensowheel.com/ http://www.comp.co.uk/frm/index.htmFor comparison the chrome plated (and rusting) wheel nuts that my forged SSR Type V wheels came with weigh 7.7 ozs for 4, the forged ones just 2.75 ozs. Almost 1/3 lb lighter per wheel. I believe that the standard wheel nuts are much lighter than the ones supplied with my SSRs though, so in most cases any weight saving will be very minimal (i.e. unnoticeable). They only come in anodised blue or red BTW Steve Willington
